SERAC-Bangladesh is proud to be part of the Impact Network for Media and Information Literacy, a chapter of the UNESCO Media and Information Literacy (MIL) Alliance. Through this engagement, the organization will work with regional partners to advance media and information literacy, expand stakeholder participation, and strengthen meaningful youth engagement in Bangladesh and beyond.
SERAC-Bangladesh’s Executive Director, SM Shaikat, serves as Secretary of the Chapter, alongside experts, academics and practitioners working to strengthen cooperation in this field.
Connecting knowledge, people and initiatives
On 22 October 2026, UNESCO announced the approval of 16 regional and thematic MIL Alliance chapters. These chapters provide platforms for members to share expertise, develop joint initiatives and strengthen cooperation across sectors and communities.
The Impact Network for Media and Information Literacy focuses on connecting stakeholders, raising the visibility of resources and initiatives, and supporting collaboration, mentoring and knowledge exchange.
For SERAC-Bangladesh, this engagement creates opportunities to connect community perspectives from Bangladesh with wider regional learning and collaboration.
Supporting young people’s informed participation
Media and information literacy is closely connected to SERAC-Bangladesh’s commitment to youth participation and inclusive civic engagement. The ability to question sources, assess claims and share information responsibly helps young people participate more effectively in community life and public dialogue.
Through its involvement in the Chapter, SERAC-Bangladesh commits to strengthening youth engagement and encouraging cooperation among youth organizations, educators, media professionals, researchers and civil society partners.
Its priorities include promoting critical thinking, supporting access to relevant learning resources, and creating opportunities for young people to contribute their experiences and ideas to media literacy discussions and activities.
Building collaboration in Bangladesh and beyond
SERAC-Bangladesh will seek partnerships that connect local needs with regional expertise, encourage peer learning, and support media and information literacy activities that are accessible and relevant to communities.
Serving as Secretary, SM Shaikat will contribute to the Chapter’s collaborative work and knowledge exchange alongside fellow members.
SERAC-Bangladesh welcomes opportunities to work with organizations and practitioners committed to helping young people and communities navigate information responsibly and participate in informed public dialogue.
