Mental Health Awareness Campaign

Mental health has traditionally been a taboo subject in Bangladesh, frequently overlooked because of a lack of knowledge or awareness about mental health among health workers, or stigma preventing families from seeking help. SERAC-Bangladesh in collaboration with Bangladesh Youth Health Action Network – BYHAN, HRIDAY, WHO-SEARO, and UNICEF has developed National Action Plan and  implemented a 3 months long Mental Health Awareness Campaign by engaging 40 health champions under the project “Capacity Building of Adolescents and Youth as Health Champions” to establish a social and digital movement for raising awareness by engaging at least 10,000 adolescent and young people and transforming their perception and attitude towards mental health by December, 2022. During this campaign adolescents and youths are sharing their experiences and stories of mental health challenges and services using a specific hashtag. Creative contents on mental health awareness will be developed and promoted using social media. Video messages from parents supporting the mental health of young people will be shared on a monthly basis to encourage a friendly parent-child relationship. Also, a series of facebook live talk-show will be conducted on mental health awareness with ensuring participation of adolescents, youths and experts. Furthermore, world mental health day will be celebrated through a placard campaign.
