Adolescent Health Access: Peer-Led SRH Initiative in Bangladesh
The Project
Funded by the Commonwealth Foundation, SERAC-Bangladesh is implementing a 12-month policy advocacy initiative in Dhaka to promote adolescent sexual and reproductive health (SRH). This policy advocacy project aims to work with government agencies and health stakeholders to formally recognize and adopt the innovative Volunteer Peer Leader (VPL) model within government-run Adolescent-Friendly Health Centers (AFHCs).
The initiative builds on the successful innovation of the VPL model under the USAID-funded Shukhi Jibon project, implemented with the support of the Directorate General of Family Planning (DGFP). Moreover, to generate demand for integrating the VPL model into national policy, the project will carry out targeted outreach programs, engaging 5,000 adolescents across Dhaka. By linking youth engagement with strategic policy efforts, the project aims to strengthen adolescent SRH services through long-term policy integration of VPL model.
