DreamWings in Action: Fostering Early Childhood Development Through August Edutainment Sessions.

Early Childhood Development (ECD) forms the essential foundation of a child’s future. According to WHO and UNICEF (2012), a child’s brain develops at its most rapid rate from the prenatal period through 8 years of age. Ensuring access to quality early education, creative expression, and practical life skills during these critical early years is vital for holistic growth. Grounded in this vision, SERAC- Bangladesh’s DreamWings project replaces rigid, traditional memorization with interactive edutainment, creating a joyful learning environment where children absorb essential life lessons naturally through play.

Continuing our ongoing efforts throughout August, the DreamWings team successfully conducted learning sessions across multiple partner schools in Mirpur. Al Aqsa Model Academy and Amader Pathshala School did sessions 6 and 7 together. Session 6 focused on Origami Easy Fish, Bengali colour learning with Ms Mun, and proper handwashing. These activities allowed children to unlock their creativity, sharpen fine motor skills, recognise colours in Bengali, and master the proper steps of handwashing for better hygiene. Session 7: The Lion and the Mouse, Tom & Jerry | The House Disaster, Shapes Identification, and Colour Identification. Supporting children with their understanding of kindness and moral values and strengthening their ability to recognise basic shapes and colours through engaging, story-based and activity-based learning.

We conducted Sessions 7 and 8 at Nizamuddin Memorial Pre-School (Branch 2: 12 Kurmitola Camp, Chandu Nehari). Session 7 helped children to recognise different shapes and colours and learn healthy hygiene habits, including correct hand washing. Session 8 featured Fruit Songs, Fruit Colouring, Montessori Sensorial Activities, and Tom & Jerry | Cat-Astrophe in the Kitchen, which had the children identifying fruits and colours, developing observation and fine motor skills, and participating in sensory and creative learning. Session 7 was about shapes and colour identification and proper handwashing, which helps children’s early cognitive development, visual recognition, and personal hygiene awareness at Nizamuddin Memorial Pre-School (11 No. Millat Camp). To summarise, the August sessions offered children valuable opportunities to develop creativity, foundational knowledge, practical life skills, healthy habits, moral understanding, and confidence in a joyful and child-centred learning environment.

Grounded in the Montessori Method, our project aims to enhance children’s sensory refinement, practical life knowledge, and social etiquette. Facilitators continuously observe each child’s individual development during these sessions to help them grow into independent, self-reliant individuals. Looking ahead, our upcoming sessions will introduce vital awareness lessons on ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’ safety, human anatomy (body part identification), and further practical life skills to ensure every child has the guidance they need to soar to endless heights.

As DreamWings continues to grow, our commitment remains to make early learning more joyful, inclusive, and meaningful for every child. By blending Montessori-inspired activities, creative exploration, practical life skills, and essential safety awareness, we strive to create learning experiences that extend beyond the classroom and support children in their everyday lives. Through each session, we are nurturing curiosity, confidence, independence, and positive habits – helping children build a strong foundation for a brighter future and empowering them to learn, grow, and soar to endless possibilities.
