On 6 April 2026, SERAC Bangladesh, in partnership with CIVICUS, organized a vibrant Peace Adda in Barguna, bringing together community members and youth to discuss the role of responsible citizenship in fostering a peaceful society.
The discussion focused on the critical importance of identifying misinformation, preventing violence, and practicing safe intervention. Participants highlighted that in today’s digital age, verifying information before sharing and avoiding suspicious images or links is essential to prevent the spread of rumors and hate. The session also emphasized community awareness through dialogue, local meetings, and educational activities to strengthen public understanding of laws, rights, and civic responsibilities.
A key theme of the Peace Adda was respect for diversity. Participants stressed that valuing religious, cultural, and ideological differences, rejecting rumors, and promoting social harmony are foundational steps toward building peaceful communities.
The youth of Barguna also contributed proactive ideas for community engagement, advocating for initiatives such as road safety awareness, cleanliness drives, reducing plastic use, environmental protection, and tree plantation activities. Their enthusiasm underscored the role of young people as catalysts for sustainable social change.
Through platforms like Peace Adda, SERAC continues to nurture responsible citizenship, community dialogue, and active participation, helping to lay the groundwork for a more peaceful, informed, and harmonious society in Bangladesh.
