To improve health services for young girls and protect their rights, SERAC Bangladesh organized a special workshop for healthcare providers in Sherpur. The event was part of the project Improving the Health and Well-being of Marginalized Adolescent Girls through Effective Engagement of All Relevant Stakeholders, implemented jointly by Eminence and SERAC-Bangladesh with support from UNICEF. A total of 50 service providers from the local family planning and health departments attended the program in two separate groups.
Adolescence is an important time in life, but many young girls face big problems due to a lack of proper health information and friendly care. In poor or remote areas, social stigma and unfair treatment make things even harder. This workshop aimed to train healthcare workers so they can offer friendly, safe, and equal care to every adolescent girl without any judgment.
During the sessions, participants discussed important topics like sexual and reproductive health rights, safe menstrual hygiene, and adolescent mental health. The workshop also focused on stopping child marriage, preventing sexually transmitted infections, and helping girls overcome social barriers so they can exercise their rights freely.
The sessions were led by SERAC-Bangladesh team members Sangita Sarkar (Program Manager), Kakoli Akter (SBCC Officer), and Md. Kamran Miah (Network Officer). At the end of the workshop, the health workers promised to work actively to provide better services for young girls. SERAC-Bangladesh believes that by working together with local health partners, we can build a safer and healthier future for all adolescent girls.
