Dhaka’s rapid urban growth has placed increasing pressure on the health system, further widening disparities in access to quality sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services. Despite national progress in family planning, significant gaps persist in access to essential SRH services, particularly for women facing financial, mobility, informational, and social barriers.

To help address these gaps, SERAC-Bangladesh has partnered with Marie Stopes Bangladesh (MSB) to pilot a private-sector healthcare service delivery model supported by Community-Based Mobilisers (CBMs)-trained youth volunteers working across Dhaka City. The pilot aims to connect women and communities with trusted, qualified SRH care through community-level demand generation, awareness-raising, and accurate information sharing.

At the heart of this pilot are our Community-Based Mobilisers (CBMs), local youth volunteers who bridge communities and qualified healthcare service providers (GPs). Guided by healthcare professionals, CBMs raise awareness of available SRH services and help community members understand where and how to access appropriate care.

CBMs act purely as a community bridge, helping women and their families navigate available services and ensuring that women in Dhaka’s urban communities are aware of where trusted, affordable, and quality SRH services are available.

Through this pilot, SERAC-Bangladesh and MSB seek to strengthen community-level awareness and service linkages, reduce barriers to SRH care, and demonstrate how youth-led community engagement can complement private-sector healthcare services in rapidly growing urban settings.
