How can young people contribute to peace and stability during times of political crisis? This question brought young people together at Peace Adda, organized with the support of SERAC-Bangladesh, for an open and engaging discussion on the role of youth in promoting peace, social harmony, and stability.

Under the theme “The Role of Youth in Establishing Peace and Stability During Political Crises,” the session provided a platform for young participants to share their thoughts, exchange perspectives, and reflect on their responsibilities as active and responsible citizens.

The discussion covered several important issues, including political rights, political freedom, equity, civic education, and responsible citizenship. Participants reflected on how awareness of rights, equal opportunities, and meaningful youth participation can contribute to building a just, inclusive, and peaceful society. The conversation also highlighted the importance of understanding civic rights and responsibilities and recognizing how young people’s actions, choices, and engagement can influence their communities and society.

One of the key reflections from the discussion was the importance of respecting differences of opinion. In times of political uncertainty and social division, diverse perspectives can sometimes create distance among individuals and communities. However, participants emphasized that differences should be addressed through mutual respect, tolerance, and constructive dialogue rather than becoming sources of conflict or division.

The session highlighted critical thinking, responsible communication, and peaceful engagement as important practices for positive social change. Participants also discussed the need to approach information thoughtfully and contribute to a culture where dialogue and understanding are valued. Through Peace Adda, participants had the opportunity to reflect on how they can practise responsible citizenship, respect diversity, encourage dialogue, and promote social harmony in their everyday lives.

The discussion reaffirmed that peace is more than the absence of conflict. It requires equity, justice, mutual respect, inclusion, and the active participation of citizens. Young people, with their ideas, perspectives, and commitment, can contribute meaningfully to this process.

Because peace is not about thinking alike; it is about respecting our differences and moving forward together.Through initiatives like Peace Adda, SERAC-Bangladesh continues to create spaces where young people can express their views, engage in meaningful dialogue, and reflect on their role in building a peaceful, inclusive, and harmonious society.
