On February 20, 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh, in collaboration with SAAF, organized a national-level consultation meeting in Dhaka. The meeting was chaired by Md. Noor-E Alam Siddiqui, the Director General of the Department of Family Planning, and presided over by Dr. Mohammad Sohel Habib, Line Director (MCH Services) of the Department of Family Planning.
Key attendees included Mir Sazedur Rahman, Director of the Administration Unit of the DGFP; Mohammad Tashlim Uddin Khan, Director of the IEM Unit; Dr. Mohammad Rafiqul Islam Talukdar, Line Director of the CCSDP Unit; SM Shaikat, Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh; Md. Selim Miah, Deputy Director of SERAC-Bangladesh; Dr. Abu Jamil Faisal, FP2030 Focal Point, Bangladesh; Dr. Md. Manjur Hossain, Program Manager (A and RAH), MCH services Unit, and Director of the Divisional Family Planning Office; Deputy Directors from the Mymensingh and the Netrokona Family Planning Office. Directors, Project Manager, Doctors and service providers from 20 government and private health centers attended in the meeting. SERAC-Bangladesh’s Program Lead, Shahina Yasmin, Advocacy Specialist, Mizanur Rahman Pavel, Program Officer, Songita Sarker, Associate Finance and Admin Officer, Faruk Ahmed, Program Associate, Shapla Akter and Robin Miah, Program Development Associate, Katha Mondol, and IT and Communication Associate, Darul Ahmed Ishan.
The meeting focused on key initiatives to enhance healthcare accessibility for underserved populations. Discussions centered on advocacy for allocating 10% of beds in private hospitals for deprived clients, improving coordination between 20 health centers, leveraging mobile applications to support young women and adolescents, and expanding the project’s reach to more than 2 subdistricts to connect with communities at the grassroots level. The goal of these discussions was to ensure broader access to quality health services, especially in sexual and reproductive health, to benefit vulnerable and marginalized communities.
