The International Congress on AIDS in Asia and the Pacific (ICAAP) is the largest forum on AIDS held in the Asia and the Pacific region. Since the first ICAAP was held in 1990 – almost 25 years ago – the ICAAP has played a critical role in raising public awareness, building political commitment, strengthening advocacy networks and disseminating knowledge and experiences on HIV issues among stakeholders in the region. The 12th ICAAP was held in Dhaka during March 12-14, 2016, with a one day community leadership forum on March 11.
SERAC-Bangladesh in partnership with the International Youth Alliance for Family Planning (IYAFP) hosted a ‘youth corner’ at the ICAAP engaging hundreds of youths, transgenders, MSMs, PLHIV, and delegates joined the conference. A cohort of 33 National Youth Delegates led by IYAFP Country Coordinator S M Shaikat, organized various events and skills building sessions at the conference.
Local and international delegates, VIPs including the minister for youth of Mali Adama Diarra, UNICEF resident representative to Bangladesh Edouard Beigbeder, and Executive Director of Partners in Population and Development Dr. Joe Thomas visited and shared ideas, experiences with youths at the youth corner.
