Youth-Led Solutions for a Zero-Waste Future: Voices Ahead of COP31

Our Executive Director, S M Shaikat, joined YOUNGO’s Global Youth Statement session and shared how young people are taking meaningful action to address food waste in their communities.

In his statement, he highlighted the inspiring work of young people in Lucky Summer, Nairobi, where food scraps are collected from more than 100 households and transformed into animal feed and fertiliser. This is a powerful example of how community-led initiatives can turn food waste into valuable resources while contributing to climate action.

It was a great pleasure to be part of this important conversation ahead of COP31 in Türkiye, 9–20 November 2026, alongside young climate leaders working to bring practical solutions and youth perspectives to the global climate agenda.

Through SERAC-Bangladesh’s partnership with the Zero Waste Foundation, we are proud to contribute to this growing movement alongside the Youth Zero Waste Climate Action Network, which brings together 34 youth-led groups taking action on waste and climate challenges in their communities.
