Today’s Peace Adda, held at Ramna, was organized by SERAC-Bangladesh with the support of CIVICUS. The session brought together young participants to discuss pressing issues surrounding youth mental health and the growing challenges faced by adolescents in today’s rapidly changing world.

The discussion focused on the increasing mental health struggles among young people, including stress, anxiety, depression, and in some cases, suicidal thoughts. Participants highlighted that a major contributing factor is the widening generation gap between parents and children. This gap often prevents open communication, making it difficult for young people to share their feelings, experiences, and challenges with their families.

The conversation emphasized the importance of strengthening family relationships and improving communication at home. Participants stressed that young people should feel safe and encouraged to share their problems, while parents and guardians should practice empathy, active listening, and supportive understanding. Creating such an environment can significantly reduce emotional distress and help build stronger family bonds.

Another key point of discussion was the need for inclusion, optimism, and breaking social barriers. Participants agreed that differences in culture, religion, and personal beliefs should not create division, but rather be embraced as opportunities for learning and understanding. A positive mindset and collective awareness were seen as essential tools for overcoming challenges and finding constructive solutions.

The session also highlighted the importance of expressing opinions openly while respectfully listening to others. Constructive dialogue was encouraged as the most effective way to address problems, followed by meaningful action. Participants noted that every action should be carefully considered in terms of its impact and long-term effects, ensuring responsible decision-making.

Finally, the importance of appreciation and recognition was strongly emphasized. Acknowledging the positive contributions of others helps motivate individuals and fosters a culture of encouragement and growth. The discussion concluded with a shared understanding that meaningful change begins with self-awareness and personal transformation, which can ultimately lead to a more empathetic and supportive society.
