Every child’s smile is the story of a beautiful future. Through its dedicated ‘DreamWings’ project, SERAC-Bangladesh is advancing its commitment to create a colorful childhood and a brighter future for underprivileged children. We are a modern educational approach, moving away from traditional methods and having a direct impact on the mental and social development of children. The main purpose of education is to create a happy, meaningful, and life-oriented childhood. The main aim of this project is to wake up the sleeping self-confidence of these children and encourage them to create and learn something new every day.
We believe that core behaviors and social etiquette are vital, along with textbook learning, for a child’s pathway to self-reliance. So our team worked tirelessly in different camps and schools on the ground during the whole month of May to sow the seeds of creativity and improve the daily life skills of these children. The month of May was a time of major milestones for us, as we were able to successfully run our sessions in four different educational centers.
At the beginning of the month we had a successful 2nd session at Nizamuddin Memorial Pre-School (12 Kurmitola Camp, Chandu Nehari). We began the session by asking the children if they had cut their nails and if they were washing their hands correctly. The session was mostly on early learning and developing key habits.
Another milestone achieved by us was our 3rd session held concurrently at Al-Aqsa Model Academy and Amader Pathshala. Here too, we started with the checking of nail hygiene of the children and hand washing habits. This was followed by a Montessori based practical life skill activity of ‘pouring water from one container to another’ for the children. This interesting exercise was carried out with great enthusiasm by the children right in their classrooms.
Finally, to add a new dimension to our activities in the month of May, we conducted the 4th session at Nizamuddin Memorial Pre-School (Camp-11, Millat Camp). This was a major milestone in the project for the kids of this school. In this session, they were imparted with important behavioural traits and etiquettes through interactive activities like ‘Ringa Ringa Roses’, ‘covering the mouth while sneezing’ and ‘working together in harmony’.
The fun combined with learning has really increased the children’s interest in going to school regularly, helping them to move forward step by step towards the real world.
“In our upcoming sessions we have incorporated some important and sensitive topics in our curriculum. In the interest of safety of the children, sessions on awareness on ‘Good Touch and Bad Touch’ and practical training on tying the shoelaces will be conducted.
In addition, we will use fruit images to introduce ‘Sensorial Colour-Matching’ to encourage their cognitive and intellectual development. There will also be sessions on ‘Origami’ the beautiful art of paper folding which will test their patience and improve their fine motor skills. In the next few days the children will also be able to get to know the English names and functions of various parts of the human body in a playful way.
The core mission of SERAC-Bangladesh is to provide a safe, supportive and growth-oriented space for children living in the camps and underprivileged children. In the sessions of May, we are always inspired by the joy in the eyes of these children and their eagerness to learn.
