On 7–8 September 2026, SERAC-Bangladesh organized a two-day Staff Capacity-Building Training on Safeguarding and PSEAH (Prevention of Sexual Exploitation, Abuse and Harassment) at Hotel Lake Castle, Gulshan, Dhaka. The training was supported by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida) and Plan International Bangladesh. The initiative aimed to strengthen organizational capacity and promote a culture of safety, dignity, respect, and accountability across all levels of the organization.

The training focused on strengthening participants’ knowledge and practical skills on safeguarding principles, PSEAH prevention and protection, reporting and response mechanisms, safety planning, ethical conduct, professional boundaries, and accountability in both workplace and programmatic contexts. The sessions also emphasized the importance of identifying potential risks, preventing harm, and ensuring that safeguarding considerations are integrated into everyday organizational practices.

The sessions were facilitated by Md. Rezanul Huque, Safeguarding Advisor, Plan International Bangladesh. Through engaging discussions, case studies, group exercises, and practical scenarios, participants explored safeguarding frameworks, power dynamics, risk identification and mitigation, survivor-centered approaches, and safe workplace practices. These interactive learning methods enabled participants to reflect on real-life situations and identify appropriate ways to prevent, report, and respond to safeguarding concerns.

SM Shaikat, Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh, also contributed to the training discussions by sharing practical experiences and reflections. His participation helped connect safeguarding principles with the organization’s day-to-day operations and program implementation. The discussions highlighted the importance of responsible conduct, professional boundaries, confidentiality and accountability in maintaining a safe and respectful working environment.

The training provided staff members with an opportunity to share experiences, raise questions, and strengthen their understanding of organizational safeguarding responsibilities. Through scenario-based discussions and collective learning, participants enhanced their confidence in identifying safeguarding risks, following appropriate reporting procedures, and responding to concerns in a responsible and sensitive manner.

The two-day training reinforced SERAC-Bangladesh’s commitment to prevention, protection, responsible reporting, policy compliance and organizational accountability. As safeguarding is a shared responsibility, continued investment in staff capacity remains essential to ensuring safe, inclusive, respectful, and accountable environments for all individuals and communities with whom the organization works and serves.
