SERAC Bangladesh, in collaboration with Ipas Bangladesh, organized 25 School Campaigns for SRHR Knowledge Dissemination on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) among adolescents. The initiatives supported by the HealthBridge Foundation of Canada, focused on increasing awareness and promoting SRHR services, including the OGSB call center promotions and social media platforms, among students in various communities funded by Global Affairs Canada through the HealthBridge Foundation of Canada.
The activities from May 5 to May 14, 2025. These sessions included knowledge dissemination on adolescent health, menstrual health, gender-based violence, and service accessibility, followed by interactive quiz competitions. The campaigns reached numerous locations across Dhaka, including Chanduddan, Mohammadpur Area, Nandipara & Madartek Area, Uttar Badda Tetul Tola, Katasur, Mohammadpur, Maniknagor, Mazar Road, Mirpur-1, Mirpur-10, Block-C, Mirpur-12, Islambag, Kazi Alaudin Road Area, Dhalpur Area, Jatrabari, Demra, Chonpara, D-block, Mirpur-12, Eidga Math, Korail T&T colony, Journal Market Team, Mirpur-12, Block-D, Road No 2, Meher Bekary, Shewrapara, Sukhrabad Area, Dhanmondi, Kazi Alauddi Road, Vatara, Notun Bazar, Basabo, Duyaripara, Pallabi, Paikpara, Pakuriya, and Rayer Bazar.
A remarkable total of 1238 participants were engaged in these school campaigns. This included 133 boys and 656 girls, along with 195 teachers, 15 GPs, and 239 volunteers. Among the participants, 789 were 19 years and younger (656 girls, 133 boys), and 449 were 20 years and older (292 girls, 157 boys). The participant breakdown by type further highlights significant involvement from 239 Youth Volunteers, 789 Community members, 195 Educators/Teachers/SBCC Officers, and 15 General Practitioners. The core content of the activities included Menstrual Hygiene Management, Sexual and gender-based violence, Sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). While the objective of the activity was to change knowledge or attitudes, it did not specifically target knowledge or attitudes on SRHR issues. The success of these extensive school campaigns was made possible by the dedicated team of trainers and facilitators, Shafiullah Lemon, Riyad Hossain, Kakoli Akter, Rabiul Islam, and Sumaia Akter Mim. SERAC-Bangladesh continues its vital work in improving sexual and reproductive health and rights for all.
