Small But Mighty: The Power of Micronutrients in Teen Health.

NutriTeens Talk Show Highlights the Power of Micronutrients in Teen Health
On July 31, SERAC-Bangladesh hosted an engaging and informative live session under its NutriTeens initiative titled “Small But Mighty: The Power of Micronutrients in Teen Health.” Designed to equip adolescents with practical knowledge for a healthier, more confident summer, the session spotlighted the vital role of micronutrients in teen well-being.

Key Discussion Highlights

  • Micronutrients & Adolescent Health: Understanding the crucial role of vitamins and minerals in teenage growth and development.
  • Addressing Deficiencies: Identifying common gaps (e.g., iron, calcium, vitamin A) and strategies for smarter food choices.
  • Nutrition–Mood Connection: Exploring how diet influences energy levels and emotional well-being.
  • Summer Wellness Tips: Practical advice on hydration and balanced, nutrient-rich meals.

The session featured expert insights from Naima Rubi, Dietitian at SIBL Foundation Hospital & Diagnostic Center, alongside youth voices AL Rouf Towsif and Tinni Tasrin, adolescent volunteers.

Special Remarks

Md. Salim Miah, Deputy Director (Program), SERAC-Bangladesh, remarked: “Just filling your stomach isn’t enough—your body needs the right micronutrients to function at its best.”

Featured Contributions Naima Rubi emphasized: “Teens often miss out on key micronutrients like iron, calcium, and vitamin A due to poor eating habits or skipping breakfast. These nutrients are essential for energy, vision, and bone strength. Even on a limited budget, local foods like eggs, lentils, leafy greens, and seasonal fruits can help bridge the gap.”

From a youth lens, AL Rouf Towsif shared: “Without vitamins and minerals, a meal is just fuel—not power!”

Tinni Tasrin added: “Filling your belly isn’t enough—your body craves quality, not just quantity!”

The session was skillfully moderated by Katha Mondal Dristi, Program Development Associate at SERAC-Bangladesh, who facilitated a lively and inclusive conversation.

This impactful talk show not only raised awareness on adolescent nutrition but also inspired young people to take ownership of their health. Through continued efforts like the NutriTeens initiative, SERAC-Bangladesh remains committed to building a healthier, better-informed adolescent generation nationwide.
