Building Knowledge, Leading Change: Refresher Orientation of Youth Volunteers on SRH and SGBV

In September 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh conducted 3 one-day refresher orientations for 66 youth volunteers as part of the Improving SRHR in Dhaka Project, aiming to strengthen sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) at the community level. These refresher sessions were designed to enhance volunteers’ knowledge, confidence, and communication skills, enabling them to address SRHR and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) more effectively within their communities.

During the orientation, participants revisited essential topics including adolescent health, menstrual regulation (MR) and post-abortion care (PAC), family planning (FP) services, Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT), stigma reduction, social media engagement for SRHR advocacy, and effective community outreach strategies. The interactive sessions fostered experiential learning, enabling volunteers to not only refresh their knowledge but also strengthen their leadership and advocacy roles in local initiatives.

The training was facilitated by experienced trainers and SBCC officers from SERAC-Bangladesh, who guided youth volunteers on mobilizing communities, creating safe spaces for discussion, and promoting SRHR using a rights-based approach. By reinforcing technical skills alongside personal development, this orientation empowered youth volunteers to engage their communities confidently, advocate for SRHR, and support peers effectively.
