As part of the Youth Catalyst initiative by UNFPA Bangladesh, with support from Sida, SERAC-Bangladesh successfully organized the District-Level Art Competition on “Climate Change, SRHR, and Service Challenges” in Sunamganj.
The event brought together 30 young participants — 15 from schools and 15 from colleges — to creatively illustrate how climate change affects health, rights, and community resilience.
The event was chaired by Tapan Kanti Gosh, Deputy Director, District Family Planning Office–Sunamganj, and attended by Md. Mohaiminul Haque, Assistant Director, District Environment Office–Sunamganj, who also served as judges alongside Lutfa Pathan, Project Manager, SERAC-Bangladesh. The session was facilitated by MD. Nazmul Hasan guided the participants on the objectives of the activity, encouraging them to use art as a tool for advocacy, awareness, and climate resilience.
Inspiring Words from the Chair and Guest
Tapan Kanti Gosh emphasized the importance of environmental awareness:
“We need to take care of our environment. We must first be conscious ourselves and also raise awareness among others. Only then can change happen. Your artwork reflects your beautiful thoughts, and we have seen those wonderful ideas. Take these ideas forward and continue working with them. For any physical or mental health concerns, our adolescent-friendly health centers are available to you, providing completely free services.”
Md. Mohaiminul Haque highlighted the growing threat of plastic pollution:
“We need to be aware of our use of single-use plastics. Microplastics are entering our bodies every day, posing serious risks. Through your art, we saw how you understand the causes of climate change and the problems it creates. Your artwork beautifully communicates these important messages.”

From each group, the top five participants were selected for awards, which included trees and books, recognizing their creativity and impactful messages. The competition provided a platform for young people to reflect, express, and advocate for a resilient and rights-based future, showcasing how youth-led initiatives can inspire community awareness and climate action.
