Access to SRHR for Young Women Project Inception Meeting held in Netrokona

On October 10, 2023, SERAC-Bangladesh organized an inception meeting in Netrokona under the “Access to SRHR for Young Women” project, supported by SAAF/IPPF. The meeting was held in presence with officials from the Netrokona District Family Planning Office, local administration, health ministry, civil surgeon’s office and authorities from public and private healthcare facilities to discuss project objectives, activities and areas of focus to enhance accessibility to  quality health services.

Key speakers, including Dr. Kripa Nath Paul and Dr. Jeevan Krishna Roy, highlighted the importance of addressing misconceptions about SRH services and the necessity for qualified gynecologists at healthcare centers. Participants emphasized the need for community awareness to ensure women and adolescents can access safe reproductive health services without stigma.

The meeting also focused on strategies for designing Behavior Change Communication (BCC) materials and providing training for service providers. SERAC-Bangladesh plans to implement activities in eight public and private health centers in Netrakona, aiming to raise awareness and improve access to SRH, family planning and Post abortion care (PAC) services.

SM Shaikat, Executive Director of SERAC-Bangladesh, reiterated the project’s significance in light of the region’s high Total Fertility Rate (TFR) and the increased risks associated with unsafe SRH service. The meeting concluded with a commitment to work collaboratively over the next two years to ensure safe and friendly health services for the community.
