On 22nd October 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh organized an orientation for 25 community youth leaders and mentors under the ISRHRD initiative to strengthen their knowledge and capacity to address Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) at the community level. The session provided participants with a comprehensive understanding of the root causes, different forms, and impacts of SGBV, while emphasizing the promotion of gender equality, protection of reproductive rights, and community-driven prevention and support.
The orientation initiated understanding leaders and mentors towards gender identity, types and manifestations of GBV, roles and responsibilities of youth leaders and mentors, responsible use of social media, and strategies for effective community engagement. The orientation also highlighted survivor-centered approaches, including confidentiality, empathy, and referral pathways.
Through practical exercises, discussions, and case studies, participants gained the tools and skills to prevent SGBV, support survivors, and serve as agents of change in their communities, contributing to safer, inclusive, and more informed local environments.
