Let’s Recommit Ourselves to Environmental Conservation and Climate Action’ with this theme, Youth Coalition for Climate Justice (YCCJ) along with The Climate Reality Bangladesh Chapter and SERAC Bangladesh celebrated ‘Eco-care Campaign’ in honor of Environment Month. This campaign underscores the importance of environmental awareness, particularly through tree plantations, overseen by our dedicated adolescent and youth leaders. This took place at four schools in Dhaka and Khulna, including Ahmedabad High School, Janani Kindergarten High school- Kamrangirchor, Baby Education High School and College- Nandipara, and Abdus Somed High School, Jhalakathi to bring together young eco-warriors committed to making a difference.
The campaigns kicked off with interactive workshops by sharing insights on environmental conservation, climate action, and sustainable living. These sessions empowered the young participants with knowledge and practical tips on how to contribute to environmental preservation in their daily lives. Additionally, the campaigns also addressed the importance of tree plantation and joined hands to plant a variety of native trees, contributing to a greener and healthier environment in the schools. The youth and adolescent leaders took charge, educating their peers about the significance of trees in combating climate change and enhancing biodiversity. These activities not only improved the aesthetic appeal of the school premises but also instilled a sense of responsibility and civic duty among the participants.
Teachers, and other school authorities actively participated in the campaign, showing their support for the youth-led initiative. The teachers were also declared as ambassadors of the schools. Their involvement reinforced the message that environmental conservation is a collective effort that requires the participation of all generations. The ‘Eco-care Campaign’ had a profound impact on the young participants, fostering a sense of environmental stewardship and leadership spirit. By engaging in hands-on activities and learning, the adolescent and youth leaders gained valuable skills and knowledge that they will carry forward in their future endeavors.
Apart from this, a social media campaign was organized for the whole month long in the eve of World Environment Day 2024 to raise awareness about environmental issues and encourage eco-friendly behaviors. It focuses on the importance of environmental conservation by highlighting the specific environmental issues (e.g., plastic pollution, climate change) to promote actionable steps individuals can take by engaging community leaders, volunteers, climate activists, leaders and head of the organizations.
As we celebrate these moments and achievements, let us recommit ourselves to the cause of environmental conservation and climate action. The enthusiasm and dedication of our adolescent and youth leaders remind us that each small step we take can lead to significant positive changes for our planet. Together, we can create a sustainable future where the environment is protected, and our communities thrive. Let’s continue to support and empower our young eco-warriors as they lead the way toward a greener, healthier world.
