From Local Action to Global Impact: SERAC-Bangladesh at UN-Habitat’s Global Dialogue

On Thursday, 2 October 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh joined UN-Habitat’s global stakeholder engagement – an inclusive process grounded in transparency, ownership, and meaningful participation. Executive Director SM Shaikat and Project Manager Lutfa Pathan represented SERAC at the dialogue.

During the consultation, Executive Director SM Shaikat held an engaging exchange with UN-Habitat Executive Director and UN Under-Secretary-General Anacláudia Rossbach. He emphasized the importance of creating a next-generation platform where Urban Youth Councils from across the globe can come together.

Shaikat’s proposal envisioned a global knowledge-exchange and collaboration hub—a space for:

  • Curating and sharing practical tools for youth-led urban initiatives

  • Enabling peer-to-peer learning among young leaders worldwide

  • Scaling proven models and ensuring they take root across cities in diverse contexts

This vision reflects SERAC-Bangladesh’s longstanding commitment to amplifying youth voices in policy spaces and building youth leadership in urban governance. By co-creating such a hub with UN-Habitat and international partners, SERAC aims to ensure that young people are not only at the table but also driving action as the world prepares for the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13).

At this pivotal moment, SERAC-Bangladesh reaffirms its readiness to collaborate on this journey—so that youth leadership can shape urban policy, planning, and implementation in inclusive and transformative ways.
