On September 14, 2023, SERAC-Bangladesh organized an orientation meeting in Mymensingh under the “Access to SRHR for Young Women” project, supported by SAAF/IPPF. The meeting convened officials from the District Family Planning office, NGOs, local administration, health ministry officials, civil surgeon officials, and staff from public and private healthcare facilities to discuss the project objectives, activities, and areas of focus aimed at improving accessibility to health services.
Key discussions highlighted the need for competent service providers in safe Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and Post-Abortion Care (PAC) services. Guests emphasized the importance of counseling and maintaining the confidentiality of client to prevent them from seeking unsafe alternatives.
The meeting also addressed the critical need for awareness regarding the rights of service users and the importance of ensuring access to SRH and PAC services. SERAC-Bangladesh aims to implement strategies, including the development of mobile apps and BCC materials, to enhance awareness and promote safe services among women and adolescents.
Executive Director SM Shaikat noted Mymensingh’s high Total Fertility Rate (TFR) of 2.7%, underscoring the urgency of improving reproductive health services. The project will collaborate with 12 public and private health centers in Mymensingh to enhance the quality SRH and PAC services, ensuring that all women and girls have access to the care they need.
