Strengthening Youth Volunteers’ Knowledge on SRHR and SGBV through Orientation

During August and September 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh organized Eight one-day orientations for 92 youth volunteers from multiple communities, including Maniknagar, Anandabazar, Manda, Senpara, Kuchukhet, East Basabo, Mirpur-10 (Block C), Darussalam, Abashik-16, Bow Bazar, Vashantek, Lalbag, Islambag, Kashmeritola, Korail T&T, Haq Bazar, Shewrapara, Alubazar, and Kazi Ala Uddin Road.

These orientations were designed to strengthen the capacity of volunteers to lead effective interventions on SRHR and sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). Sessions introduced participants to the project’s objectives, operational areas, and management processes, ensuring they understood their roles as youth change agents.

The thematic discussions covered a wide range of topics, including family planning, menstrual regulation (MR), post-abortion care (PAC), SGBV, values clarification and attitude transformation (VCAT), health and hygiene, effective communication, community mobilization, and networking. Special attention was given to the responsible use of social media as a tool for awareness raising.

Volunteers also participated in practical exercises to practice community session facilitation, helping them gain the skills and confidence necessary for field-level activities. These orientations significantly enhanced the knowledge and leadership capacity of the participants, enabling them to deliver accurate SRHR information and play an active role in addressing harmful practices in their communities.
