Transforming Communities Through Empowering Youth for SRHR Advocacy

SERAC-Bangladesh continues to implement strategic initiatives and dynamic programs, which fosters an environment that promotes Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), gender equality, and community-driven change.  Organized the Refresher Orientation for youth volunteers, a crucial initiative under the “Improving SRHR in Dhaka Project.” SERAC-Bangladesh, in collaboration with the HealthBridge Foundation of Canada and Ipas Bangladesh. This initiative, generously funded by Global Affairs Canada, is dedicated to enhancing the accessibility and quality of SRHR services.

On January 18, 2025, SERAC-Bangladesh successfully organized a one-day Refresher Orientation program at Dhaka. With 92 participants, including community health workers, youth leaders, and educators, this workshop was meticulously designed to reinforce knowledge and refine advocacy skills.

The orientation covered an array of significant topics, including:

  • Comprehensive understanding of family planning, SRH, and post-abortion care (PAC).
  • Addressing Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) through education and active intervention.
  • Effective communication and networking strategies for youth advocates.
  • Utilizing social media as a tool for awareness and engagement.

The training not only provided theoretical insights but also encouraged interactive participation. With a strong focus on Values Clarification and Attitude Transformation (VCAT), the program aimed to challenge societal stigmas associated with sexual and reproductive health. Participants were equipped with the necessary tools to facilitate open discussions within their communities, fostering an inclusive and informed society.

SERAC-Bangladesh acknowledges the crucial role of youth involvement in reshaping societal narratives around SRHR. By empowering and engaging youth volunteers in community mobilization and advocacy initiatives, the organization enables young leaders to confidently and credibly advocate for sexual and reproductive health rights.
