UNDEF Accolades SERAC’s Urban Youth Council Activity

SERAC-Bangladesh’s Executive Director, SM Shaikat called on the Deputy Executive Head of UN Democracy Fund Mikiko Sawanishi, and the Executive Director of the UN Office of Partnerships Annemarie Hou, during a distinct visit to the UN HeadQuarter in New York on April 12, 2023. Krystal Marie Cruz from UNDEF also joined the discussion while Annmarie, and Mikiko both expressed appreciation for the progress made on the project and assured their ongoing support for SERAC-Bangladesh’s ongoing activities for empowering youth through civic engagement through initiating urban youth councils in Bangladesh. The conversation included opportunities for furthering meaningful youth inclusion and enhancing their capacity through localizing democratic practices like elections at youth councils, and similar platforms.

SERAC-Bangladesh is running the Advancing Engagement by Setting Up Urban Youth Councils in Bangladesh project which is an innovation supported by the UNDEF, and in technical partnership with UN-Habitat. The project is empowering young people in the development of urban youth councils in four cities in Bangladesh (Rajshahi, Narayanganj, Mymensingh, and Rangpur).
